Wings Of Desire

On the other side of the window pane, which is just beside my desk at office, sits a pigeon on a parapet of my building. As I take my seat each morning at my office desk, it would already be there to greet me a "Good Morning". All through the day it would sit on that parapet, watch me stare continuously at something and work my fingers along something. We don't share the same workspace, or the company, but we do share the vast area on which our company campus has been built upon. In other terms, it's a trespasser into a territory dominated by a species named "Software Engineers".  I wonder why, in spite of having those wonderful wings, it doesn't fly away. Those wings can take it to places. It can fly from a tree to another tree, from a building to another building, from a country to another country. It can fly across lands & oceans. Yet, in spite of this it has decided to sit at just one place whole day. What stops it from flying away ? There aren't any barriers, atleast not which human eyes can see. As I look at my 'winged companion' on the other side of  the glass pane, I wonder if I am just looking at my own reflection. Watching it sit whole day like that makes me introspect myself as what is it that keeps me imprisioned within the four corners of my cubicle. Is it the wall, made with concrete and steel, that surrounds me on four sides ? Or shackles of responsibilities ? Probably what stops me and my 'winged companion' from flying away is the absence of "Wings Of Desire". Waiting for those wings to take shape and I'll fly...away.
